Reflection

As a special education teacher, it is very important to be able to collaborate and consult with different people in order to further the academic and social development of students.  During IEP meetings, it is important to communicate with the team effectively to better provide services for students with special needs.  During the meetings everyone has their piece of the puzzle to contribute to the students success.  In the evidences above, I show the process of special education, and also a script of a manifestation determination that not only included the IEP team, but also other people that had an impact on the students success in school.  From this experience, I saw first hand how important communication is when speaking to a family about their child's behaviors and academic success.  Parent's may get very defensive when they don't fully understand the process and procedures of things that occur in special education.  So it is up to us as teachers to provide that effective communication to them.
