Reflection
As a special education teacher, one must know how to establish rules and procedures that convey behavioral expectations. As an alternative education teacher it was very important for my students to know what their expectations were in the classroom. From my experience a lot of the students that were in the program, did not have functional behavioral assessments, nor did they have a behavior intervention plan. In my opinion this is what made the program somewhat ineffective for some students. Students who have severe behavioral issues, need to have an FBA in order to figure out the causes or triggers for their inappropriate behaviors. The FBA will also help in the development of the BIP, which will contain effective behavioral supports for students. Teachers must be aware of their students behaviors and ways that they can help support the student.
